Hospitals are experiencing personnel shortages.
Senator John Boozman has introduced a bill to address staffing shortages at Veterans Administration hospitals.
Senator Boozman said that VA hospitals are experiencing staffing shortages. “It’s clear there is a lack of urgency to fill VA medical center director positions,” Boozman said. “We have a responsibility to ensure adequate leadership at medical centers is in place to provide vital oversight and meet the needs of veterans.”
According to the senator’s office, the VA Secretary is prevented from keeping an acting medical director in the past 180 days without having a plan for a replacement under the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Absence and Notification Timeline Act (VACANT).
If passed, the new legislation would keep both Congress and the VA informed on staffing issues with updated workforce data reporting requirements, the senator said.
Boozman’s bill is now with the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee whose chairman, Senator John Tester, said, “As chairman, I often hear from veterans in Montana and across the country about the lack of providers in rural communities. We need VA to hire providers faster and be able to retain high-quality talent in rural areas.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to guide and direct the members of Congress and those in the Department of Veterans Affairs as they work to provide for the needs and wellbeing of our nation’s veterans.
- For healing, grace, and peace for the nation’s veterans who have sacrificed of themselves to fight for the freedom of the nation’s citizens.
